Dressage is all about a horse going forwards and working from behind. Its a bit like making a cake; all the ingredients put in at the right time = cake (yummy!), miss out a vital ingredient and it might look like a cake but it won't taste the same. In order to get a horse to work correctly you need ; impulsion, rhythm, bend, balance and they are to name but a few. I strongly reccommend getting yourself a trainer as it takes a few minutes to cause a problem and can take a lifetime to fix it.

napping

by bubbles Thu Dec 22, 2011 13:54

napping is always a tricky problem to overcome. Firstly, make sure you are riding him forwards, secondly get the usual things checked ie back, teeth saddle etc. If all proves to be ok then I suggest you lay down the law a bit. I know it sounds harsh but at such a young age he needs to learn that this is not acceptable. Not going forwards is the root of all evil.

cold

As long as cough doesn't get worse and snot either goes away or doesn't change, i wouldn't worry too much. Feeding soaked hay on the floor will help as soaking reduces dust and putting it on floor helps gravity do its job if there is any cattarh build up.

Horses gums should be salmon pink and healthy horse snot should be a sort of off white, light cream colour. Hope this helps!
