Napping

by Jayne Oct 16, 2011

My 5 year old Irish sport horse naps tp other horses so badly he wont go to the jump in thw collecting ring as he doesn't want to move away from the other horses. How can I put a stop to this I know he is just starting his education but ive never seen a horse nap so badly

napping is always a tricky problem to overcome. Firstly, make sure you are riding him forwards, secondly get the usual things checked ie back, teeth saddle etc. If all proves to be ok then I suggest you lay down the law a bit. I know it sounds harsh but at such a young age he needs to learn that this is not acceptable. Not going forwards is the root of all evil.
